Autumn Veggie Garden - Welcome the Greens

Planted out a lot of seedlings on the 21 April. Filling up our veggie garden again.

So thankful for our veggie garden, it blessed us with a lot of food for Summer. Now with this next lot of plants, should help us through autumn and winter.
Have planted out celery, Brussels sprouts, sliver beet (have some colourful ones as well as the good ole green kind), cauliflower, broccoli, pak choi, and kale seedlings. Also planted some pea seeds.
Later on will plant some bean seeds.
One of the things I have done this year is re-planted our capsicum plants into pots. Somewhere I heard to do that as they can keep giving your more capsicums and grow into bushes that keep giving for a few more years. And I have to say it's true so far. We are getting lots more capsicums.

One of our 4 capsicum plants i have re-planted. Look at all those capsicums! Very handy for soup, stews and stir-frys.

Veggie garden this morning 26/04/2013, the celery at the far end is what we planted first and have already used some in making chicken stock. Love watching plants grow.

Progress in the Vegetable Garden

Moved the chickens along and now starting to plant seedlings into the 3rd stage.

Our vegetable guard - But really our cat Mischief caught before causing mischief.

We are able to grow a range of different vegetables, and growing at different paces. At the moment we have

• Tomatoes
• Cucumber
• Squash
• Eggplant
• Lettuce
• Radish
• Basil
• Sunflowers
• Celery
• Carrots
• Spring Onions
• Zucchini
• Beetroot

We also have potatoes and swiss chard growing in other areas. So yummy salads and BBQ dinners to look forward to this summer.

Office and Garden

More like an office now.

The office is becoming a more useful space, and more peaceful. Have a light coming to make the place brighter. Also need to work on the door so have a handle on the other side and even better would be to put a lock on. The seat is very comfortable, but I can't spend all day in  there. We had a moment of fine weather and moved the chicken coop along to the 3 stage of the vegetable garden.

Chickens are enjoying some free range time in our garden as we prepare their coop for them. We are pretty happy with how the plants are growing in our veggie garden. Will be having radish's soon and lettuce. Yay salad time :) bring on some more good weather.

Spring Planting

Have begun planting our seedlings and a few head start plants.  Also added some $8 veggie soil. Now just need to get some mulch :)

Still have some more garden to prepare, for more planting.

They have already started on the soil, and still laying us eggs. I do have another roost to make.

I'm loving getting out into the garden, and digging into the soil. Watching things grow, snacking on what has grown :)

Seedlings - Not Long Now

Cute Couple, Cucumber and Sunflower. Will be planting these both together :)

The free soil keeps coming. Right now DH, DS13 and DS12 are out getting another trailer load. Next we will spread our compost on top. Can't wait to plant our seedlings.

Our first raised garden bed is growing well :) Been getting lots of yummy greens from it.

Maybe, just maybe this Summer we will be having all our fruit and vegetables from our garden.

Spring has Sprung

Time to get back to the garden.
This year we are trying to save money in our garden (and kitchen). Starting with growing most our plants for the vegetable garden from seeds. But what cheap and easy way could we do this?

Toilet rolls

Yes after a search on the Internet found a great way to recycle our toilet rolls. Printed off a instruction sheet for my home journal and got started.

A spare plastic box we had, makes a great mini plastic house.

Sunflowers and Cucumbers already sprouting. That sprayer at the back is what we use to water the seeds.

Most of the seeds we have are either given to us from family and friends, or leftovers from last year. So at the moment not costing us a thing. The helpful part of using toilet rolls is you can write what you have planted on the roll, saves on using tags.

Would rather be in the garden

But stuck inside with kids and a baby. Outside the sun is shining, wonderful after days with rain. The birds are singing, and weeds are growing (I so want to deal with those weeds). But at least I can tend to our seedling growing inside. And when I'm busy feeding baby, I can keep an eye on DS11 who is baking a cake.

I did sneak out and picked a strawberry for my morning tea. Sun kissed sweet strawberry.
